Project Manager - Renewable Energy (Construction)


Location: Newlands, Cape Town


Type: Permanent (Contract appointments also considered)

An experienced Project Manager is sought to join a fast-paced renewable energy development and construction environment in Cape Town. The successful candidate will lead the delivery of large-scale Wind and Solar PV projects across South Africa, managing construction from financial close through to COD and handover.

This is a full-time position based in the Newlands office, with regular travel to project sites across the country.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage day-to-day delivery of EPC and Supply & Installation contracts

Oversee project milestones: construction, commissioning, handover, and close-out

Prepare and track contractual notifications, variation orders, and claims

Coordinate with Owner's Engineers, EPC contractors, environmental officers, and other service providers

Lead monthly project meetings and oversee site-based activities

Ensure grid code compliance and support Eskom-related processes

Manage relationships with lenders' technical advisors and independent engineers

Support transition to O&M and close-out activities post-DNP

Candidate Profile:

Minimum 15 years' post-graduate experience in infrastructure or energy project delivery

At least 5 years in renewable energy or large multi-disciplinary construction projects

Degree or diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil), Quantity Surveying, or Building Science

Strong knowledge of construction contracts and contract management

Proven leadership and stakeholder coordination skills

High attention to detail, strong communication, and technical competence

Ability to work independently, travel regularly, and manage multiple priorities

Excellent planning and organisational ability

Commercially aware with a hands-on approach to problem-solving

The Opportunity
You will provide geotechnical leadership across the design and delivery of large-scale rail infrastructure, including foundations, ground improvement, slope stability, tunnelling, and risk mitigation strategies. You'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, innovative, and technically sound solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Lead geotechnical investigations and design for major rail infrastructure projects

Conduct technical reviews and develop design recommendations in line with local and international standards

Advise on geotechnical risks, constructability, and ground-related issues during planning and execution

Support project delivery with high-quality technical reporting and documentation

Candidate Requirements

Degree-qualified in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline

Minimum 10 years of relevant geotechnical experience, including rail or transport infrastructure

Proven ability to deliver complex ground engineering solutions in multidisciplinary environments

Proficiency in geotechnical design software and familiarity with regional standards

Strong communication and coordination skills

Middle East project experience preferred but not essential
