Job Title: Commissioning Manager - Substation & Grid Automation (Contract)
Location: Onshore, Europe
Contract Duration: 10+ months (with strong potential for a 12-month extension)
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday (some potential for rotation)
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead and coordinate commissioning activities for a major onshore substation project in Europe. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in grid automation systems, coupled with a strong track record of managing complex commissioning phases within high-voltage transmission or distribution infrastructure projects.
This is a long-term contract opportunity offering stability, professional growth, and the chance to play a key role in a high-profile energy infrastructure project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the full commissioning scope for the substation project, ensuring alignment with project schedules, safety standards, and technical requirements.
- Manage and coordinate commissioning teams and subcontractors onsite.
- Supervise the testing and commissioning of grid automation systems, including protection relays, SCADA, and control systems.
- Ensure all systems are tested, energized, and functioning according to specifications and grid compliance.
- Prepare and manage commissioning documentation including procedures, test reports, and final sign-off.
- Act as the main point of contact for all commissioning activities with the wider project team and client-side stakeholders.
- Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of technical issues during commissioning.
- Ensure adherence to HSE regulations and commissioning best practices throughout project delivery.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a Commissioning Manager role within substation or HV infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with grid automation technologies, including protection schemes and SCADA integration.
- Ability to lead commissioning processes from pre-commissioning to energization and handover.
- Familiarity with European grid codes and utility standards.
- Excellent coordination, communication, and leadership skills.
- Availability to work on a full-time, onshore basis in Europe, Monday to Friday (rotation may be considered where necessary).
Desirable:
- Prior experience working with major OEMs or EPC contractors in the power transmission sector.
- Multilingual capabilities are a plus.
