Job Title: HV Engineer (Contractor) - Grid Infrastructure Project (France)

Location: France (On-site/Hybrid)
Contract Type: Fixed-term Contractor
Duration: 6-month minimum contract (Potential for extension)

Role Overview:

An experienced High Voltage (HV) Engineer is required to support a major grid infrastructure project in France. The role will involve working on HV substation design, protection & control systems, and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with national grid standards. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering, project management, and commissioning teams to deliver a high-performance and reliable power system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Engineering:
    • Support the design and integration of high-voltage AC/DC substations (400kV, 225kV, 132kV) for grid solutions.
    • Develop protection and control (P&C) schemes, including relay settings, coordination studies, and SCADA integration.
    • Assist in the preparation of Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), key protection schemes, and interlocking logic.
  • Testing & Commissioning:
    • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of protection relays, switchgear, and control systems.
    • Perform HV substation commissioning and oversee functional testing, including IEC 61850-based protection systems.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve protection relay and SCADA communication issues during integration.
  • Project Coordination & Compliance:
    • Work closely with grid operators, EPC contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with French grid code regulations.
    • Support system integration between onshore and offshore HV substations, ensuring compatibility with grid operator requirements.
    • Ensure adherence to quality and safety standards, including risk assessments and method statements.

Key Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in HV engineering within transmission & distribution, grid infrastructure, or renewable energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of HV substation design, protection & control systems, and grid integration.
  • Experience with protection relays (Micom, ABB, Siemens, SEL, Alstom) and SCADA/RTU systems.
  • Proficiency in ETAP, DigSilent PowerFactory, or similar grid simulation tools.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 protocol, HVDC technology, and grid code compliance in France is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and grid operators.
  • Fluent in English; French language skills are a plus.

Additional Information:

  • This role willinvolve travel to project sites in France for on-site testing and commissioning.
  • Minimum 6-month contract, with potential for extension based on project needs.
  • Competitive daily rate based on experience and contract terms.
