The Estimation Engineer will work with the Technical team and develop comprehensive, detailed, project capital cost estimates in support of renewable energy projects.
Estimations will be based upon latest available cost information and data from internal and external sources and will be presented in a suitable format for use by senior management.
Key Activities
- Review and comprehend typical RFP related documents (i.e. geotechnical data, topographic surveys, engineering specifications, IA, PPA, single line drawings, PVsyst reports, etc.)
- Perform quantity take-offs for all components on a utility scale solar project.
- Effectively communicate with subcontractors, vendors, owners and other relevant parties to define project scope and identify potential issues.
- Interact with vendors and subcontractors, as well as solicit bids/quotes (as needed).
- Utilize historic project data (i.e. material/equipment costs, manpower, productivity, etc.) to provide indicative EPC estimates.
- Occasionally travel to project sites to conduct site visits, monitor construction, client/vendor meetings, etc.
- Assess risks associated with a specific solar project and ensure proposal complies with all known and/or foreseeable requirements. Most importantly, that the estimate is accurate.
- Work cross functionally with engineering, construction and procurement teams to ensure requirements for each solar project are accounted for when bidding.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management or other relevant field of study is preferable, but not required.
- Experience in estimating and/or designing utility scale solar projects is preferable.
- 1 - 3 years of experience in the energy business in an analytical, estimation, budgeting
- Strong knowledge of currently available estimating software and tools, Microsoft Office and Project software, Excel modelling techniques
- Keen on analytic, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Estimation and budgeting experience on large capital projects
- Ability to prepare estimates and budgets with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to quickly learn the company's existing estimating/budgeting and scheduling systems, and to provide recommendations to enhance the current process
- Understanding of basic financial principles (IRR, NPV, Depreciation, etc.)
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally with short notice
- Good Level of English
