Engineering and Construction Lead - Hydropower (Africa )
About the Role
We're working with a leading company committed to developing and building hydropower plants across Africa. With established operations in Rwanda, Gabon, and Kenya, they are expanding their portfolio and are seeking an Engineering and Construction Manager (ECM) to join their Paris-based team with regular travel to Africa.
As the ECM, you will oversee the costing, planning, and execution of construction projects, ensuring operations are carried out efficiently and meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
Location: Paris with travel to sub-Saharan Africa
Type: Permanent, full-time
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: €70,000 - €110,000 per annum (based on experience)
Key Responsibilities
Costing & Planning
- Develop accurate cost estimates, timelines, and resource plans for projects.
- Work closely with project managers to define efficient construction methods.
- Identify labor, material, and equipment needs for each phase of the project.
- Propose solutions to optimize costs and mitigate risks.
Team & Subcontractor Coordination
- Collaborate with contractors to ensure alignment on methodologies and resources.
- Plan and manage work sequences and monitor schedules.
- Facilitate effective communication between local teams and technical partners.
Control & Monitoring
- Validate and implement quality control methods in coordination with site managers.
- Track project progress to ensure alignment with budgets, timelines, and quality goals.
- Prepare performance reports and recommend adjustments as necessary.
Technical Studies Support
- Contribute to feasibility studies, APS, APD, and CAD designs for projects under development.
- Provide technical support to engineering teams and design offices.
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
- Engineering degree in civil engineering, public works, or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of experience in construction project studies and methods, ideally within hydropower or infrastructure sectors.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in planning and costing tools (MS Project, Primavera, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering techniques and international standards (Eurocodes, FIDIC).
- Experience with APS/ODA studies and logistics challenges.
Personal Qualities
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and excellent at problem-solving.
- Collaborative and capable of working with multicultural teams.
- Independent, organized, and proactive in managing responsibilities.
Languages
- Fluent in French.
- Fluent in English (essential for working with international partners).
