General Manager - Hydropower Rehabilitation - Congo
(French fluency/ high level mandatory)
Are you a seasoned expert in hydropower with a passion for driving impactful projects? We have an extraordinary opportunity for a General Manager to lead the large scale rehabilitation of a major hydroelectric power plant in northern Congo.
The hydroelectric power plant is located in northern Congo. It was built and commissioned in 2010 by the Congolese government. The concession for the rehabilitation and operation of this plant was awarded to our client last year 2023, following signature of the Power Purchase Agreement in June 2024.
General Manager Duties
He/ She will be responsible for ensuring that the clients contractual commitments are honored, implementing the company's strategic orientations, guaranteeing operational excellence, mastering the renovation of a plant in operation, and guaranteeing the expected financial profitability.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience in hydroelectric power, a proven track record as a manager and a passion for sustainable development.
The General Manager reports directly to the company's Board of Directors.
Main responsibilities
- Implement and communicate the company's vision, mission and strategic objectives, as directed by shareholders and the Board of Directors.
- Report to shareholders and the Board of Directors according to the frequency and granularity of content requested.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Congolese government institutions involved in the project, industry associations and partners.
- Manage and guarantee the application of the clauses of the contracts signed by client with the Ministry of Energy and the sector's regulatory office.
- Collaborate with government institutions and industry associations to influence policies and regulations.
- Manage the day-to-day administrative side of the company (HR, Finance, Sales, etc.)
- Draw up and manage the company's budget, ensuring its financial viability.
- Monitor financial performance, analyze financial statements and report to the Board of Directors.
- Monitor key performance indicators and financial metrics to improve operational performance.
- Formulate and implement long-term strategies to drive growth and profitability.
- Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes.
- Oversee all aspects of the company's operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness, particularly in the implementation of renovation work.
- Manage all the company's contracts with subcontractors.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements in the management of the company.
- Foster a culture of operational excellence, accountability and teamwork.
- Identify and seek out new sources of revenue and new business opportunities.
- Mitigate financial risks and implement cost control and revenue growth strategies.
- Inspire and motivate employees, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
The successful candidate must have proven experience as a General Manager or in a management role within the hydropower industry.
Main requirements
- Master or Bac +5 in engineering or business administration.
- Extensive experience and skills in the field of hydroelectricity.
- Experience of an expatriation in Africa or a developing country in the management of similar projects.
- Very good understanding of hydroelectricity concession and power purchase principles.
- Successful experience of negotiating with government representatives at the highest level on similar issues.
- Mastery of the organization of renovation work on a plant in operation.
- Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- French Fluency
Salary Package: 120,000 to 165,000 Euros (depending on experience)
