Position - Technical Field Advisor (TFA)
Role description
The TFA (Technical Field Advisor) is an advisory technician role, working closely with the installation team on the hardstand and in the turbine, supervising the installation process, providing guidance in work instructions described in the manuals, as well as troubleshooting technical problems during the installation process that may not be covered in the documentation. He is the technical go-to person for turbine installation crews for advice, support & supervision.
The TFA is acting on behalf of the manufacturer and represents and protects manufacturer information, property and interests - in relation to working with the installation subcontractor.
Reporting to the Site Manager on the project.
Main responsibilities
- Technical supervision of turbine installation works, with focus on:o high-risk operations (e.g. crane operations and related lifting equipment),
- o operations requiring special skills (e.g. bolt torqueing/tensioning),
- o operations involving manufacturer -owned equipment (lifting yokes and systems);
- Advising manufacturer installation subcontractor on specific work processes during turbine erection, and mechanical/ electrical completion. Providing guidance on practical implementation of work instructions.
- Troubleshooting technical problems that are blocking the installation process - finding direct technical solutions, as well as contacting manufacturer Technology/ Engineering/ Documentation departments and clarifying ambiguous or uncovered points in the turbine work instructions.
- Delivering feedback from site experience/ practice towards manufacturer Documentation team to update work instructions where needed. Deliver feedback about subcontractor competence/ performance to manufacturer .
The above lists are not exclusive and may have to be extended in order to fulfil the project related demands.
In case of technical issues, non-conformities between requirements/specification and the executed works, the Contractor shall immediately inform Site Manager/ TFA Functional Manager, document them and shall actively drive also the process of finding solutions/technical clarifications.
Formal competencies/prerequisites
- Strong technical background in wind turbine installation.
- Expected to have a solid technical knowledge of the specified turbine model.
- Needs to have an understanding of technical drawings, lifting plans, risk assessments, work instructions.
- Fluent in English, verbal and written, including technical vocabulary.
- Committed to Safety: setting very high safety standards to oneself and co-workers.
- Committed to Quality: making sure our turbines are installed safely, in time and in perfect quality.
- Computer skills level: has to be able to use shared documentation from manufacturer databases: work instructions, manuals, risk assessments. Experienced user of Office applications.
- Physical fitness required for working at heights and climbing up in turbine during installation.
- Driver's license for car and driving practice
Personal skills
- Strong leadership skills (team lead level): needs to step up as a leader of a team to supervise, control and direct the work processes of the subcontractor teams. Needs to stop the work or intervene in case of a safety risk.
- A proactive and solution-oriented mindset with ownership and responsibility towards the work, the people involved and towards manufacturer values.
- Self-driven & self-motivated personality.
- Willingness to work odd hours and show flexibility in rotation timing if on-site activities require.
- Willingness to travel and stay abroad on sites for extended time.
