Role: System Netwok Design Manager
Salary: £90,000 - £100,000 per annum, depending on experience and skills
Location: Wales (preferred) / Remote with travel to Wales
Position Summary:
As the System Network Design Manager, you will oversee power system modelling for the company's network. You'll be responsible for customer connection modelling and managing engagement with the Electricity System Operator (ESO) and other regulatory bodies on system network changes and governance. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Customer Connections, you will collaborate with various teams such as Customer Connections, Grid & Regulation, Engineering, and project teams to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the system network capabilities and model governance. You will also act as a key liaison with external bodies like the ESO.
Key responsibilities:
* Lead the System Network Design process from initial connection to completion, acting as the primary point of contact for project concept designs, managing system design changes, compliance, and addressing unplanned events like faults post-energization.
* Oversee the governance of the Power System Model, managing system changes and revisions.
* Manage the software requirements for all power system studies, and provide models/data to regulatory bodies and customers as needed.
* Ensure compliance with ESO's system requirements, including the grid code.
* Conduct power system studies to assess customer connection needs and support the Customer Connection Manager with technical aspects of contracts.
* Drive policy change in collaboration with the Grid and Regulation teams to improve system model management and enhance efficiency in network design policy.
* Assist the Director of Engineering and Customer Connections in driving improvements, supporting reporting, and promoting business objectives within the team.
* Take ownership of power system model management, reporting directly to the Director of Engineering and Customer Connections.
* Proactively coordinate with other departments to meet project deadlines, while providing accurate monthly progress reports for System Network Design, including key activities and risk management.
* Establish and maintain positive working relationships with external entities such as DNOs, TOs, NESO, and Ofgem in relation to power system model management.* Foster collaboration across internal departments, promoting positive and effective working relationships.
Requirements:
* A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
* Proven experience as a senior manager within a power system modelling environment, preferably within a regulated network setting.
* Expertise in both steady-state and dynamic power system studies and modelling.
* Proficiency in conducting system studies related to various generator and network assets.
* Experience engaging with the National Grid Electricity System Operator or other UK transmission/distribution operators.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly articulate power system modelling requirements.
* Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and manage power system modelling projects simultaneously.
* Experience managing teams and supporting individual team members in their development.
