Head of Construction Europe - Onshore Renewables and BESS
A leading player in the renewable energy sector is looking for a highly experienced and driven Head of Construction/Project Director to join their dynamic Operations Team, based in Lisbon, Portugal. This is a pivotal leadership role, reporting directly to the Management Board, with the responsibility of expanding and managing construction capabilities for renewable energy projects across Europe.
About the Company:
The company is actively developing a diverse portfolio of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar, and wind energy projects, particularly in the UK and Southern Europe. With several large-scale projects set to enter the construction phase in 2025, they are seeking a strong leader to guide their projects from financial close to commissioning and ensure smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the construction of a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects, including BESS, wind, and solar, ensuring successful project delivery across Europe.
- Define and oversee project deliverables, reporting frameworks, and timelines to ensure milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
- Oversee and manage EPC contracts, grid connection agreements, planning consents, and environmental permits during the construction phase.
- Conduct detailed technical due diligence for pre- and post-acquisition projects, including site assessments, cost estimation, and constructability reviews.
- Collaborate closely with the Technology and Procurement teams, leading or contributing to procurement activities, supplier negotiations, and ensuring optimal technology deployment.
- Ensure strict compliance with regulatory, environmental, and safety standards across all construction activities.
- Build and manage cross-functional teams of project managers, engineers, and on-site staff, ensuring alignment with company goals and local regulations.
- Act as the key point of contact between the Management Board and construction teams, providing regular updates, managing risks, and offering solutions for any project challenges.
Skills and Experience:
- Extensive experience in managing large-scale renewable energy projects across Europe, particularly in onshore wind, solar, and BESS projects.
- Deep understanding of contractual, technical, and regulatory aspects involved in renewable energy construction.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of leading multi-disciplinary teams across different geographies.
- Experience with project management from financial close to commissioning, including budgeting, risk management, and reporting to senior management.
- Familiarity with renewable energy projects in France is highly desirable.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to manage stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors effectively.
Salary:
Negotiable based on experience - €70,000 to €90,000 per annum
Location:
Lisbon, Portugal - with travel across Europe as required.
