Civil & Mechanical Engineer
Are you a seasoned Civil Engineer with a strong foundation in structural and mechanical engineering, eager to apply your expertise to help drive the global shift towards renewable energy?
Our client is a dynamic and purpose-driven scale-up on a mission to accelerate the world's transition to clean energy by making solar power accessible and financially attractive from the very first day. As a leading developer of solar energy projects, our client's civil and mechanical engineering teams play a crucial role in realizing this vision.

Your Role
As a Civil & Mechanical Engineer, you will serve as an in-house technical expert, providing guidance in technical discussions and negotiations with both internal teams and external stakeholders. This is a unique chance to influence the future landscape of renewable energy infrastructure.

Your Contribution
In this role, you will be responsible for civil engineering design and analysis, acting as the key point of contact for technical discussions with lenders' advisors. You will operate autonomously, handling complex engineering challenges and proactively resolving any issues that arise.

This role is remote-first, allowing you to work from anywhere in Europe! However, travel will occasionally be required for meetings at the Stockholm office or for site visits, customer meetings, and other stakeholder engagements.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all civil, mechanical, and structural designs, technical specifications, and project work conducted by third parties adhere to relevant norms, regulations, and project-specific requirements, as well as the Owner's Requirements of the standard EPC contract. This includes designing support structures for PV modules, foundations, access roads, trenching, fencing, earthworks, drainage systems, and buildings, and performing necessary engineering calculations.
- Regularly update all engineering design requirements and specifications in the Owner's Requirements of the standard EPC contract.
- Develop specifications for structural assessments, topographical and geotechnical studies, soil investigations, hydrological and hydraulic analyses, and pull-in-and-out tests, all to be executed by third parties.
- Review and analyze structural assessments, topographic studies, geotechnical reports, soil investigations, hydrological and hydraulic studies, and civil engineering calculations provided by third parties, translating these findings into specific design requirements.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and PV design tools like PVCase or PV Design to create conceptual and detailed designs and Bills of Quantities (BoQ) for utility-scale photovoltaic systems for RFP packages.
- Develop technical specifications for components, civil, mechanical, and structural works, and coordinate with the broader engineering team to define PV system designs.
- Act as the subject matter expert on civil, mechanical, and structural topics during discussions with external stakeholders such as financial institutions, technical advisors, and EPC contractors, as well as with internal teams.
- Provide support to GC Development Engineers during project development and acquisition phases by reviewing civil designs and structural solutions.
- Assist BtM Development Engineers throughout the sales and construction process, from Financial Investment Decision (FID) to Commercial Operation Date (COD), by reviewing rooftop structural assessments and civil and structural solutions.
- Collaborate with the Procurement Team in evaluating technical solutions from structure manufacturers and civil works contractors.
- Coordinate with civil specialist consultants serving as on-site Owner's Engineers to provide support during construction and
resolve site-related queries.
- Stay current with developments in civil and structural engineering and photovoltaic technology.
- Use your knowledge of photovoltaics, engineering principles, mathematics, building materials, and related sciences to produce accurate and comprehensive project drawings.
- Ensure all technical deliverables are well-documented and organized for each project.
- Contribute to solar PV design optimization efforts for cost reduction and performance enhancement.
- Gain exposure to a variety of renewable technologies, including floating solar, rooftop PV, carports, and hybrid plants involving storage, wind, etc.

What We're Looking For
We are seeking an experienced civil or structural engineer with a background in mechanical engineering who thrives in an independent role with diverse responsibilities. You are proactive, customer-focused, and able to manage multiple projects with precision under tight deadlines. Ideally, you have experience working in a fast-paced, international environment and have a solid background in Utility Solar Power Plants.

Since this role involves significant interaction with both external and internal stakeholders, strong verbal and written communication skills in English, coupled with a commercial mindset, are essential.

Required Qualifications
- Over 5 years of experience in Utility Solar Power Plants. Experience in other energy sectors like Oil & Gas, Wind, or Storage will be an advantage.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized and accredited institution.
- Familiarity with international standards applicable to PV Solar Projects, such as IEC / IEEE / EN / UNE / UL.
- Proficiency in GIS tools like Google Earth.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of other languages like Spanish, Swedish, Polish, Finnish, French, or Italian will be a plus.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across Europe as required.
- Additional on-site experience with hybrid projects and an understanding of energy project finance will be highly valued.

If you're excited by the idea of working at the forefront of renewable energy and believe you have the skills and experience to thrive in this role, we'd love to hear from you!
