Role Overview
This position involves engaging with customers to educate them on the technical aspects of solar projects. You will receive substantial support from both the sales and projects teams to innovate tailored solutions for various customers. Collaborating with multiple teams provides insights into different industries, enhancing your ability to target clients effectively.
A key responsibility is the precise estimation of projects, which is critical for winning contracts. A comprehensive understanding of the technical execution and operation of solar plants is essential to address and clarify customer concerns. Continuously educating the sales team about the solar lease offer and design aspects of solar plants is vital for consistent client communication.
Candidate Profile
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in design, construction, or technical sales of rooftop, ground-mount, and carport distributed generation solar projects.
- Education: Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical, or renewable energies from a premier university. A double engineering specialty is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Experience with maintaining functional specifications, commissioning checklists, and standard operating practices for solar projects.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt quickly to a multi-cultural and multinational working environment and understand international markets.
- Knowledge: Academic understanding of international business strategies, brand management, operations management of international markets, and cross-culture management skills.
- Regional Experience: Working experience in the East and Southern African context regarding electrical norms, renewable energy regulations, and construction codes.
- Customer Interaction: Experience in customer-facing roles.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in sales, engineering, and solar-specific software such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, Meteonorm, SolarGIS, Helioscope, SketchUp, MS Project, etc.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Sales Engineering:
- Conduct feasibility studies, preliminary solar designs, CAPEX/OPEX estimation, and solar plant performance simulations.
- Assess site characteristics and analyze consumption demands during the prospection phase.
- Prepare and present technical offers to potential clients, supporting the sales team during negotiations.
- Participate in the preparation of Investment Committee Dossiers and presentations.
- Prepare handover dossiers from Sales/Business Development to the Project Development team.
- Provide technical support for 50 to 60MW awarded per year.
Project Development Support:
- Analyze EPC and contractor offers regarding quality, HSE, cost, and schedule.
- Negotiate prices and shortlist contractors for awarded projects.
- Prepare and update engineering tools and templates.
- Coordinate with the design team to prepare and follow up on local approvals and regulatory obligations.
Cost Analysis:
- Conduct cost benchmarks on past projects.
- Ensure project costs align with market trends.
- Develop tools for Project CAPEX assessment.
Project Management Support:
- Assist Project Managers in quality control, project timeline management, HSE standards, material procurement, and contractor activities.
- Review and approve material submission forms, MSRAs, project activities, and engineering drawings.
- Conduct weekly meetings and on-site visits with stakeholders for project updates.
- Coordinate with engineering, HSE, and project teams during development, design, permitting, construction, and commissioning phases.
