Business Development Manager - East Africa (Renewables C&I)
About the Role
We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Business Development Manager to join our team, reporting directly to the Head of Business Development. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead the origination and contracting of new Commercial & Industrial (C&I) opportunities across East Africa, driving our mission to provide sustainable energy solutions.
Client Profile
Our esteemed client is a leading investment manager, overseeing private equity funds dedicated to renewable energy investments in Asia and Africa, with over $700 million in committed capital. Their core mission is to deliver innovative energy solutions to commercial and industrial customers through various technologies, including solar PV, battery energy storage, and biomass to steam.
Key Responsibilities
General:
- Project Development: Lead the development of cutting-edge C&I projects in East Africa.
- Strategic Sales: Craft and implement robust sales strategies tailored for the East African market.
- Relationship Management: Build and nurture key relationships with strategic developers and EPCs in the region.
- Business Development Lifecycle: Manage the entire business development process, encompassing:
- Identifying potential clients.
- Engaging with clients and conducting thorough due diligence.
- Strategic management of client relationships.
- Conducting comprehensive site assessments and feasibility studies.
- Determining project sizing and tariff pricing.
- Preparing compelling proposals and presentations for potential clients.
- Negotiating and finalizing PPAs, leases, and other revenue contracts.
- Negotiating and closing EPC, EPCM, and O&M agreements.
- Overseeing the management of EPC and O&M agreements.
- Addressing client queries during construction and operations, supported by technical teams.
Reporting:
- Internal Reporting: Fulfill internal reporting and management requirements using appropriate in-house systems.
- Project Updates: Provide regular briefings and updates on project status as needed.
Key Skills/Competencies/Experience
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years in business development/sales to multinational corporations active in East Africa, with exposure to renewable energy and experience working for a multinational corporation being highly advantageous.
- Networking: Established relationships with potential customers in East Africa.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Language Skills: Excellent written English and fluency in French.
- Communication: Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
- Enthusiasm: A strong commitment to working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- People Management: Excellent people management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Africa.
- Passion: A genuine passion for the decarbonization industry in Africa and a commitment to delivering impactful projects.
Qualifications
- Education: A University Degree in Engineering or Finance.
- Advantageous: An MBA would be a significant advantage.
Salary Package
- Compensation: $90,000 to $120,000 Gross USD per annum.
Location
- Preferred Location: Kenya or other East African regions.
